Lt Col Jim Demarest from Civil Air Patrol's Marco Island Squadron Discusses XB-1 on Fox Business
On January 28, Boom Supersonic achieved a major milestone in aviation history with the first supersonic flight of its XB-1 demonstrator aircraft. Lt. Col. Jim Demarest of Marco Island Civil Air Patrol was featured on Fox Business’ Varney & Co., providing live commentary during this event. "It's a relatively small group of men and women who have had the opportunity to travel supersonic," Lt. Col. Demarest exclaims. "It's an exciting and historic moment in American aviation history."
The XB-1’s supersonic flight marks the first time an independently developed jet has broken the sound barrier. Since its maiden flight in March 2024, the aircraft has successfully completed 12 test flights, paving the way for Boom’s next-generation supersonic commercial airliner, Overture.
This historic test took place at the Mojave Air and Space Port, the same airspace where aviation pioneer Chuck Yeager first broke the sound barrier in 1947. The return of supersonic travel has been a long-anticipated achievement, and this milestone represents a key step toward the future of high-speed commercial aviation.
