Welcome to the Marco Island Senior Squadron of Florida Wing, Civil Air Patrol website. Our Squadron is a unit of Group 5, Florida Wing, Southeast Region, Civil Air Patrol - United States Air Force Auxiliary. Here is the Biography of our Commander, 1st Lieutenant Michael Harms:

Michael Harms

1st Lt Michael Harms recently relocated to Naples, Florida from Peoria, Illinois. He retired from C. H. Robinson Worldwide as Manager of the Peoria office. He has always had a passion for airplanes and in 1999 fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot. After attaining his Private Pilot Certificate, he continued to grow his knowledge and skills by obtaining an Instrument Rating, Commercial Rating, Multi-Engine rating and eventually his Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. After retiring from CHRW he worked part-time as a pilot for the local FBO and other private companies flying larger aircraft including the turboprop King Air 200.

Michael served at New Life Church in Morton, Illinois as a member of the Elder Council providing leadership of the Church. He was active in numerous capacities from teaching classes, chairing fund raising committees and leading small groups. He also volunteered in 2007 as full time Executive Director overseeing the staff, facilities and finances while a search was being made to hire a new Executive Pastor.

In 2017 Michael was introduce to the Civil Air Patrol and joined the Peoria Composite Squadron. He quickly became a Mission Pilot and served the squadron in several capacities including Character Development Instructor, Deputy Commander of Cadets and Aeronautical Instruction Officer. After relocating to Florida, he joined the Marco Island Squadron and began serving as a Mission Pilot and furthering his training in all things CAP.

Michael and wife Peg have been married since 1980 and have raised four children and currently enjoy spending time with their seven grandchildren.
